From day one, our founders Paul and Mark have been committed to bringing the best possible real estate data and insights to their clients to ensure they make good property decisions.


Founded 2016, Edinburgh

by Paul Byrne and Mark Sorsa-Leslie, both of whom are Chartered Surveyors that started their careers together 30 years ago.

NHS Property Company

was seeking a way to improve the utilisation of his one million square metre health portfolio, led them to start a 12 month research and experimentation project to find a smart way to do it.

April 2018

company filed a patent application for its proprietary space productivity methodology and received its first international order after a successful first client deployment in October 2017.

Our Team



paul byrne, mba mrics

Paul qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1992 at Grampian Regional Council and  subsequently worked for Chesterton, Turner & Townsend and Operis. In 2006 he co-founded London-based EBIF LLP and in 2014 Longmorn Project Finance, both specialising in financial modelling, structuring and funding real estate and infrastructure projects. In 2016 he co-founded Beringar with Mark Sorsa-Leslie.



mark sorsa-leslie, Mba MRICS

Mark qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1994 working in Aberdeenshire Council and Chesterton. In 2001, he found Open Era Systems, one of the UK's first online property management systems companies gaining clients including BNP Paribas Real Estate. After eight years in Finland running a VC-backed startup, he returned to form Beringar with Paul. The vision - to take the real estate industry to the next level using the power of IoT.




neil mcelduff, mba fbifm FCMI

Neil is a Senior Facilities Manager and Asset Manager formerly Executive Director of Property and Asset Management for Community Health Partnerships. He brings a deep understanding of the needs of health clients and leads our work in that sector. 



mary-ann claridge

Mary-Ann called herself a Data Scientist before the term was even coined. She has an distinguished engineering background and deep understanding of how to create and visualise insights from big data. Mary-Ann is passionate about creating usable interfaces.



Philip Claridge

Phil is a CTO with practical enterprise scale systems/data architect and product strategy experience. He was directly involved in the trade sale of Geneva and Arieso and still finds it irresistible to periodically swap from Powerpoint to a soldering iron.
